They say records are meant to be broken. But then there are some records in sports that, no matter how much you try, cannot be broken. You may think the list would be short, but with the number of sports being played at any given minute around the world, there were quite a few to choose from. Here are 10 of the best:

Fastest knockout in MMA

When you are participating in a sport like MMA, it is assumed that you have enough strength and guts to last at least a decent amount of time. Also, it helps if you can be fast and surprise your opponent. But it seems Takahiro Kuroishi interpreted the lesson of speed in a wildly different way. Not only did he run at speed towards his opponent as soon as the bell rang, he did so with his hands by his side, inviting the punch from his opponent that knocked him out in 2 seconds. You don’t believe us that anybody can be that stupid? We have the evidence!

Longest tennis match

They may not have achieved much in their tennis careers, but John Isner and Nicolas Mahut will forever be part of history books and Wimbledon folklore as they were involved in the longest tennis match that was ever played in the game’s history. The 1st round match at the 2010 Wimbledon Grand Slam between these two ended with a mind boggling score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 70-68! In fact, the last set itself broke the record for lasting more than the previous longest match! The match had to be played over 3 days as bad light forced a stoppage in play. They set 8 other records in the same match, and you can bet your life that this particular will never be broken!

Most consecutive PGA Tour wins

Even before Tiger Woods fell from grace and lost his form, he would not have had broken this record. Bryan Nelson, in the year 1945, won 11 PGA Tour titles on the trot, and it included that year’s only major as well, the PGA Championship. In fact, Nelson entered in 35 tournaments that year, won a total of 18 and finished 2nd in 7, proving how dominant he was that year. There are claims that there was not a full field playing golf that year, but major players like Ben Hogan were indeed touring, making Nelson’s record a serious achievement. To understand how difficult it is to win 11 titles in a row, one should note that Woods himself could manage only streaks of a maximum of 7 and that apart from Woods and Nelson, there has been no other golfer who could go as much as 4 wins in a row!

Most Consecutive NBA Titles

The NBA is a cut throat competition and for any one team to consistently dominate for multiple years is very difficult. And so, it can be safely assumed that the Boston Celtics’ run for 8 consecutive titles will never be bettered. One of the main reasons for the Celtics’ dominance was because of the number of Hall of Fame players they had in their squad. With there being a salary cap in the NBA now, the chance of a team going 8 consecutive years as champions is nigh on impossible. In fact, it was not long ago that people were going all gaga over the “three-peats” achieved by the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. So, the Celtics’ record is under no threat whatsoever!

200-Metre Dash (Women)

Athletics is one sport that has been tainted with many controversies of performance enhancing drugs. Whenever there is a new record broken, the first thing that people ask is whether the athlete was using drugs. It is a shame but it cannot be helped. And it was the same situation when Florence Griffith-Joyner, or Flo-Jo as she was known, beat her own record by a significant margin in the 200 meter dash of the 1988 Olympics. In case you are wondering if she was indeed on drugs, the answer is an emphatic no! The reason for our confidence is the fact that she was perhaps the most tested athlete in sports history! With the next best being Allyson Felix’s time of 21.69 in the recent edition of the Olympics, which is nowhere close to Flo-Jo’s time of 21.34, we are pretty sure this is one which will stand the test of time.

Most Red Cards in a Football Match

You would think that this is a record that must have a limit to it. After all, if one team goes down to 7 men, then they’ll have to necessarily forfeit the match. But an Argentinian referee didn’t seem to think so. In a bizarre incident involving Claypole and Victoriano Arenas, teams in the fifth tier of the Argentina football league, the referee showed as many as 36 red cards! With 2 players already sent off in the first half, the second half degenerated into a brawl. The referee, Damian Rubino, in an attempt to take control of the game, started brandishing red cards, and ended up sending off everyone! Surely, this is something that will perhaps never happen again!

Biggest margin of victory in a Triple Crown Race

While horse racing is not everyone’s cup of tea, it has got an immense following in many countries. Most races are photo finishes, with anything more generally considered an easy victory. So, when a horse wins a race by as many as 31 lengths, you know that it is the most dominant display ever! That’s what happened in the 1973 Triple Crown Race when the horse named Secretariat won the race by such a huge margin. The next best is a race win by 25 lengths, which occurred in 1943. So, one can be assured that Secretariat’s record will be next to impossible to be broken.

Most consecutive European Championships

In perhaps the most dominant displays in European football, Real Madrid Football Club won 5 European Championships in a row, which has never happened again. They won these titles from the year 1956 and continued till 1960. The closest anyone has ever come to matching this record is Bayern Munich, who won 3 titles in a row, from 1974 to 1976.

Why are we confident that 5 in a row can never be breached? The reason is that the European Championship is a competition between all the top clubs in Europe. So, for any club to dominate the rest of the top clubs in Europe would be impossible. Also, the fact that since the new format of the European Championships has started, no club has been able to successfully defend their title!

Narrowest pole position winning margin

Formula One is a sport that is all about speed. Every driver tries to be the fastest possible and pushes his car as much as he can to shave away mini seconds on his lap time. So, when there are 3 racers who happen to finish on exactly the same time, you know that it is only one in a million chance that it can ever happen again!

As you probably already know, in Formula One, the day before the race, the drivers have a qualifying session to determine who starts where on the grid. In the 1997 European Grand Prix, which is more famous for Michael Schumacher trying to take out Jacques Villeneuve so that he could win the title, 3 drivers finished their qualifying session on a time of 1:21.072! These drivers were the title rivals Schumacher, Villeneuve and Villeneuve’s team mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen. The chances of that happening in qualifying sessions in present day Formula One is impossible!

Don Bradman’s 99.94 Test Career Batting Average

Whenever there is talk of the greatest legends of cricket, there is one man who will always make that list – Sir Donald “Don” Bradman. He was perhaps the most talented batsman ever to play the game and it was evident in the way he demolished the English series after series.

He racked up runs whether he was playing at home or away, and it did not matter to him who the opposition was. In fact, the only way England could try and stop him was by inventing the infamous Bodyline bowling. He got out on a duck in his last Test innings, and if he could have made only 4 runs in it, his Test average would have been 100! With Graeme Pollock having the second best Test average of 60.97, one can safely assume that no one in the world is ever going to touch the great man’s record.
