1. Kings XI beat Kolkata by 4 runs:
Kings XI Punjab narrowly beat defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders by four runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here Tuesday.
Chasing 158 for victory, the Knight Riders managed 153 for nine. The lower order of the Kolkata team failed to fire after Gautam Gambhir (60) and Eoin Morgan (47) had put them in the driver’s seat.
2.RCB beat Delhi Daredevils via Super Over:
Royal Challengers Bangalore pipped Delhi Daredevils in the Super Over after a tie to record their fourth win in six outings while the visitors slid to their fifth straight defeat in the Pepsi IPL here Tuesday.
It was RCB’s second Super Over game, having lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this month following a tie.
3. Wenger keeps faith after Arsenal stalemate:
Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal remain on course to qualify for the Champions League even though the Gunners’ 0-0 draw against Everton left them facing a nerve-wracking end to the season.
Wenger’s side would have moved four points clear of fifth placed Tottenham with a win over Everton on Tuesday, but instead they had to settle for a frustrating point after struggling to cope with the visitors’ physical approach at the Emirates Stadium.
4. Organizers vow to continue Boston Marathon next year:
Boston Marathon organizers said that next year’s race would go ahead as planned and that they are co-operating with law enforcement officials to find those responsible for the deadly blasts.
“We are committed to continuing that tradition with the running of the 118th Boston Marathon in 2014,” said Thomas Grilk, executive director of the Boston Athletic Association on Tuesday.
5. Treble-chasing Bayern into German Cup final:
High-flying Bayern Munich kept alive their dreams of becoming Germany’s first team to win the treble by booking their German Cup final berth with a 6-1 win at home to VfL Wolfsburg in Tuesday’s semi-final.
Having already won this season’s Bundesliga crown, Bayern are bidding to become the first German side to win the European Cup, cup and league titles as they face Barcelona at home in the Champions League semi-final next Tuesday.
6. Spurs sign for ex-scoring NBA champ McGrady:
The San Antonio Spurs gave their playoff push an added boost by signing two-time league scoring champ Tracy McGrady for the rest of the National Basketball Association season.
The 33-year-old McGrady recently finished playing in the Chinese Basketball Association, with the Qingdao Eagles where he averaged 25.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists.
7. Joy as Cardiff join Swansea in Premier League:
Tears flowed as Cardiff City reached the English top flight for the first time in the Premier League era following a 0-0 draw at home to Charlton Athletic in the Championship on Tuesday.
The result guaranteed their return to the elite after a 51-year absence and prompted delirious fans to spill onto the pitch in celebration at the Cardiff City Stadium.
8. Asian Championships: Sayali fails to qualify; Sindhu the lone Indian in women’s singles
Two-time national champion Sayali Gokhale failed in her quest to qualify for the main draw of the Badminton Asia Championships at Chinese Taipei on Tuesday. Her loss means that PV Sindhu will be the only Indian women’s singles player in action in the first round.
