Shikhar Dhawan guided Sunrisers Hyderabad to a seven-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here Wednesday.

Unheralded Sameer Verma of India created a huge upset at the Yonex Sunrise Malaysian Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championships being played in Kuala Lumpur. Sameer shocked fourth seed and world number 12 Malaysian Wei Fen Chong 21-15, 16-21, 21-19 to march into the men’s singles third round.

Spanish player David Ferrer returns a ball in Barcelona on April 24, 2013. Ferrer had to dig deep to reach the quarter-finals at the ATP Portugal Open on Wednesday finally overcoming Frenchman Eduardo Roger-Vasselin 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

7. O’Sullivan in semis before ‘final farewell’

Defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan eased into the world championship semi-finals on Wednesday and, true to his unpredictable nature, said he had only returned after a self-imposed exile because he needed the money to pay his children’s school fees.

8. World Snooker Championship: Ding out as Hawkins wins

Ding Junhui’s hopes of becoming the first Chinese player to win the world snooker title will have to be put on hold for another year following a 13-7 quarter-final defeat by England’s Barry Hawkins at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre on Wednesday.
