1957 – South Africa’s first Test captain after their readmission in 1991-92, Kepler Wessels, was born today in Bloemfontein. Before captaining South Africa, Wessels played Test cricket for Australia. He is the only batsman to scored Test centuries for two different countries.
1963 - The first West Indies born player to represent India in Test cricket, Robin Singh, was born on this day in Trinidad. He played in only one Test match for his adopted country India, in Harare in 1998-99, when he scored 15 and 12 and didn’t take a wicket. He was regarded more as a one day player and was a regular feature in India’s ODI side through 90′s and early. Probably the last genuine all-rounder to represent India on consistent basis, Singh played 136 ODI scoring 2336 runs and claiming 69 wickets.
1966 - Birthday of a former left-handed Pakistani opening batsman, Aamer Sohail. After scoring 205 runs in his third Test against England, Wisden described him as someone from Gordon Greenidge’s school of controlled aggression. He scored 2823 runs in 47 Test matches for Pakistan.

1956 – Birthday of Ray Wilkins, former English footballer, who played for clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and AC Milan. He also earned 84 caps playing for England.
2000 – Norway’s women’s team kicked off their Olympics campaign with a loss to the US, got their revenge in the final by defeating US.

1868 – Golf’s 1st recorded hole-in-one by Tom Morris at Prestwick’s 8th hole.
1997 – Loren Roberts wins CVS Charity Golf Classic with a 266.
