1954: Wolverhampton win a league title for the first time ever. They would win it again in 1958 and 1959.

1962: Birthday of Stuart Pearce, England footballer and current coach of the national U-21 squad.

1987: Birthday of Tottenham and Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen.

Basketball

1963: Boston Celtics win the 17th NBA Championship, beating LA Lakers 4 games to 2.

1967: Philadelphia 76ers win the 21st NBA Championship, beating SF Warriors 4 games to 2.
