ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012 Final - Australia v India

Cricket:

2012: India won the U-19 World Cup as captain Unmukt Chand scored an unbeaten century vs Australia in Townsville after the Aussies had set a target of 226.

1909: Austalian all-rounder Frank Tarrant scores 55 not-out & 13-67 for Middlesex v Gloucestershire at Bristol as Middlesex won by an innings on the first day despite scoring just 145. Tarrant carried his bat and took a hat-trick. See the scorecard here.

1995: Brian Lara scored the 7th of his 34 Test hundreds against England at The Oval, scoring 179. The stylish left-hander also scored 48 Test fifties.

1924: Gloucestershire’s slow left-armer, Charlie Parker, took his second hat-trick of the match against Middlesex in Bristol, becoming only the fourth of seven players to achieve this feat. He took 3728 first class wickets, putting him 3rd on the all-time list, but only played one Test for England (against Australia at Old Traffor, 1921).

1981: Birth of West Indies fast bowler Tino Best. He fell 5 runs short of becoming the first No.11 to make a Test century when he made 95 against England at Edgbaston in 2012.

1930: Birthday of former West Indies batsman Joe Solomon, whose super run-out ended the infamous tied Test at Brisbane in 1960-61.

Football:

1940: Dutch club RKC Waalwijk forms. Their only honours to date are two Eerste Divisie (Second tier of Dutch football) titles. They currently play in the Eredivisie.

1979: Birthday of Ecuadorian goalkeeper Cristian Mora. He has played 20 matches for the Ecuador national team and currently plays for Macara in Ecuador’s Serie A.

1983: Birth of Fiorentina and Italy right-back Mattia Cassani. Cassani, who started his career at Juventus but never featured for them, has played 11 times for the Italian national team.

Tennis:

1950: Australia beat The USA 4-1 in the 39th Davis Cup

1955: First colour broadcast (NBC) of a tennis match (Davis Cup).

Baseball:

1939: First Major League Baseball broadcast as Cincinnati Reds beat Brooklyn Dodgers

1947: Brooklyn Dodgers’ Don Bankhead becomes the first black pitcher in the major leagues.
