1954: Wolverhampton won their first league title, beating Tottenham 2-0 in their final match of the season.

1965: Former India captain and 1995 AIFF Player of the Year V.P. Sathyan was born in the Kannur District.

1970: Arsenal rallied from a 3-1 first-leg deficit to win the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup over Anderlecht with an aggregate score of 3-4.

1979: Birthday of Ashish Nehra, the Indian left-arm seamer.

1988: Birthday of Andre Russell, the West Indian all-rounder.
