Transferencia de El Niño - Fernando Torres

So Mr. Abramovich shows his money power yet again after a good period of time. It’s official and it’s time we discuss the transfer of Fernando Torres, arguably the most complete forward of contemporary times, from Liverpool to Chelsea in what is currently British soccer’s most expensive transfer. Well it’s not everyday that we come across such news. So lets analyze and predict the implications of the transfer.

Now everyone would start commenting that Chelsea would go on and win everything but just sit back and think was this transfer actually required? For the time being this move would appease the fans who were really looking for some respite from the form Chelsea has shown this year. Managing 3 forwards and that too of high quality and status would be something Ancelotti has to cope up with. But he should be able to apply his experience from his time at the San Siro where his team was full of illustrious superstars like Kaka, Inzaghi, Pirlo, Gattuso, etc.

No doubt Torres’ style of play will gel with that of the Blues but is this a good decision career wise? He might have thought that it’s been long since he has been in the limelight for good news; his confrontation with injuries being the main culprit here. And he also knew he has the charisma to turn a lot of heads and gain some attention. What I predict here is that Torres can score a lot of goals but is he going to win trophies for them is a matter of debate. As any half-hearted follower of the Premier League would testify, Chelsea’s problem is not at the front but in its defence. Thus it bathes the question as to whether Torres was necessary for Chelsea.

Though on a personal level, he has and is receiving brickbats from Liverpool fans for the “lack of respect” he showed for the club. The fans contrast it with the love the other players showed to the club like Xabi Alonso, Riise and Ryan Babel while exiting and even after that. But he wouldn’t mind it, would he? I’m keen to watch Chelsea’s next game when the Blues take on Torres’ former employers Liverpool. A clash between the two teams is always full of high octane action, but considering the ‘El Nino’ saga, there is even more reason not to miss it.?
