Vishnu Vardhan set to represent India in men's singles at London Olympics

Vishnu Vardhan has been handed a glorious opportunity to represent India in the Men’s singles event after Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany withdrew from the Olympics, following his injury in the final of the Bet-At-Home Cup in Austria. He is scheduled to face Austrian Blaz Kavcic, ranked 77 in the world, later today.

At the start of the year, the hardworking Indian would have never thought of representing India at the Olympics. But by the virtue of the great Indian tennis drama, AITA paired him with Leander Paes as the second official entry for India in the Men’s doubles event.

The ITF ruling, that each country can have a maximum of 4 official entries, worked in the youngster’s favour and made him the highest ranked eligible singles player in the doubles draw.

Let’s hope Vardhan can make use of this opportunity and bring glory to the country!
