Who will Liverpool sign in January?

The names of Eden Hazard and David Villa have been thrown around as potential transfer targets, but will Liverpool FC’s new owners splash the cash this winter?

David Villa might be out of the question at the moment due to the injury that is set to rule him out for the rest of the season, but Liverpool FC have been pretty busy this December, trying to find the best bargains for when the time comes in January to buy players.

The positions that require strengthening are fairly obvious: a striker, a defensive midfielder and perhaps a right midfielder. At present, I am perfectly happy with our backline along with Pepe Reina, it’s solid and it has been doing a good job in recent weeks.

If anything is required at Liverpool FC at the moment, it has to be that finishing touch and finding that pass to split opponent’s defence. And if Suarez is going to sit out and Andy Carroll is going to be up front, there’s going to need to be good supply from both flanks for the Englishman to be firing all cylinders.

In right midfield we lack a true out-and-out winger, as Henderson, Kuyt and the likes of Rodriguez and Bellamy (both of whom play better on the left flank) aren’t wingers who specialize in cross delivery – unlike Downing, who hasn’t found top form in the red of Liverpool just yet, having a rather unlucky start to his spell with the Merseyside outfit.

According to the media, Liverpool FC have been interested in a lot of Latin American players of the late. Uruguayan defender Diego Godin has been listed amongst the players Kenny Dalglish is keen to add to his defensive set-up, but I don’t see him as a player who will drive the team forward at present or even in the future.

Another player I’ve been made aware that Liverpool FC are keen to sign is Brazilian defensive midfielder Lucas, albeit another one, Lucas Rodrigues Moura. I’ve seen several videos of the midfielder and I think that he would be a fantastic buy for Liverpool FC, given the fact that Dalglish likes to play with one midfield ‘destroyer’.

Up front, I think that Liverpool FC should go for a striker who is quick and can make chances out of nothing, much of the Suarez type. I personally believe that Liverpool should consider signing Podolski. The German international is reportedly seeking a move to England and Cologne seem happy to accept reasonable offers. Given Podolski’s ability on and off the ball, I think that he would be an excellent buy.

So who do you guys think Liverpool should buy this coming transfer window? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below! :)
