Why Is It Always CSK ?
First I would like to begin by saying that I am an avid IPL follower and watch all the matches and not just CSKs’. No disrespect to IPL or other teams. Love them all. I can’t always convince the believers of “all-things-are-fixed” theory but sure would like to pose the question-
Why after every CSK win , it is believed-
Whenever Dhoni gets them over the line, bowler was paid to deliver bad balls and no balls?
Whenever a person from the opposition team, whosoever it may be, drops a catch. He has been paid to do so?
CSK “TRY” to make matches interesting by supposedly gifting wickets to the opposition at crucial points?
Umpires make wrong decisions in CSK’s favour because CSK is owned by the president of the BCCI?
Inclusion in CSK is the only way to get into the Indian team?
Reasons and suspicion override CSK’s performances in all their wins. Why can’t they just be accepted as a strong team with match-winners.
No other team boasts of such a deep batting line-up ( Ashwin comes at no.9, you do the maths). In the bowling department, the credentials of Ashwin , Bravo and Nannes are well known.
And the best part about them is that if Hussey fails, there is Vijay to back up. If Vijay goes, Raina is there. Raina goes and then Badrinath comes in. Badrinath falls, Dhoni comes, followed by “Sir” Jadeja, Bravo and so on. Their batting never ends and each of these players has won CSK a match or two singlehandedly.
About the CSK leaving it till too late. Firstly, things are not always black or white. Cricket has many grey areas. In the middle overs you have got to keep wickets in hand so as to accelerate in the slog overs (17-20). You just cannot slog away and lose too many wickets in that process. No dearth of examples of teams losing in that fashion even while chasing low totals like 120 odd. Moreover, the nature of the wicket also changes while chasing.
Of course, the target has to be kept in mind and more often than not, everybody tends to focus on the runs to get in the last over. Nobody notices the fact that they have kept up with the required run rate in the preceding overs. For instance-the common belief that the “suspicious “ R.P Singh no-ball enabled CSK to win, but nobody noticed the kind of hitting they did against the RCB before that over which enabled them to reach a point where they required 2 runs off 1 ball.
So again, why CSK???
In the match against KingsXI Punjab, Hussey played an unbeaten match-winning knock. But again skeptics and haters were fast to jump to conclusions. Sure, he was unbeaten because of an umpiring blunder.
As they say luck favors the brave. We have seen many umpiring howlers and blunders in the past. Why was this highlighted so much then? We have seen the DRS , the best technology available, overturn many decisions and giving many batsmen out without much evidence.
This umpiring error was only human!
And doubting players such as Dale steyn and MS Dhoni….for matchfixing? People of their caliber cannot be doubted . Why would they do so? To get money? Dhoni is the richest sportsperson in India and Dale Steyn is the No. 1 bowler. And IPL pays them well (IPL gives 1 lakh to a spinner for flighting the ball as his “nayi Soch”). So I still can’t see through the minds of those who believe that such greats could resort to matchfixing/ spotfixing.
So therefore I say, cricket is human. It is not just batting and balling and fielding and umpiring …all existing in harmony. Well that would sure be a perfect world. But the thing is that, it is imperfect .
It is batting, balling, umpiring and fielding under pressure in front of thousands, trying to live upto expectations of oneself and of the fans. Thinking and strategizing. Some plans work , some don’t. Some days are just yours and some days just aren’t. And when they aren’t … it is not because of matchfixing, or favoritism or because some umpire has a player in his fantasy team. It is because cricket is uncertain and imperfect. It is played by people not robots or machines. Therefore “to err is human”.
I am sure many would still disagree, and that, is also human. :)
Just my opinion.
Thank you.
