NHL

NHL odds for the entire NHL season, from game one to the Stanley Cup Finals, are right here. Below we’ll take a look at the NHL odds available and what they mean for bettors. The U.S. betting market is rapidly expanding, so if you’re looking to learn about NHL odds, you’re in the right place.

What Are NHL Odds?

Odds in the NHL and sports betting world represent the probability of a bet winning along with how the bet will pay if it wins. Every NHL betting option will have odds attached to it. Sportsbooks are bound to have different odds for the same bet, and that’s normal. The different betting options for the same game will also have different odds attributed to them, depending on the type of bet.

How to Read NHL Odds?

The first bets you’ll probably see for an NHL game are the puck line, moneyline, and over/under, and each box will have numbers in them. The odds are the numbers with either a plus sign or a minus sign next to them. They tell how much the bet pays and how likely it is to win, according to the oddsmakers.

The -110 odds are very common and are a 50% chance for the bet to be a winner. The -110 also tells bettors that they would have to wager $110 to win $100 on that bet. Putting down $110 on -110 odds would reward a total of $210 if the bet wins. All negative numbered odds indicate how much a bettor must wager for the profit to be $100. As negative odds get further from zero, like -220, it also tells bettors that the bet is considered more likely to win.

Other NHL bets, like NHL moneylines, will have a number with a plus sign next to it. This informs bettors how much they would win if they bet $100. At +180 odds, an $100 bet would win $180, paying out a total of $280. As the number gets higher, so does the profit per dollar. However, the higher the odds become, the less likely it is for the bet to win, according to the oddsmakers.

NHL Moneyline Odds

NHL Moneyline odds are fairly simple, with the bets being placed on who you think will win. The team with the lower odds is the favorite, while the team with higher odds is the underdog. There are no other requirements for NHL Moneyline bets to win other than the team you choose to win the game. Since the NHL got rid of ties, NHL Moneyline bets won’t result in a push.

NHL Over/Under Odds

The NHL over/under is a bet on the total number of goals that a game will see. The winner doesn’t matter, and both teams don’t have to score for the over to win. The total number of goals must be over or under the total, depending on what you bet, and that’s it.

NHL totals boxes typically contain two numbers, the odds and the total for that game. One box will be marked to show it’s for the over, and the other one will be designated for the under. NHL games on the same night can have many different totals, and a rematch between two teams can have completely different totals also. An NHL total that is set at a whole number, such as six, can result in a push if the final tally has exactly six goals, such as a 4-2 final.

NHL Puck Line Odds

The NHL puck line functions as the spread in the NHL and is dependent on the winner of a game and the goal differential. The game will have the favorites set at -1.5, with corresponding odds of them covering. The underdog will be at +1.5 and have odds posted based on their chances of beating the puck line.

The team with the -1.5 line has to win by at least two goals to beat the puck line. The team at +1.5 is the winning bet if they win the game or only lose by one goal. The puck line will never be a whole number, so there won’t be pushes. If a game is tied after three periods, the underdog beats the puck line because they will either win or lose by one goal at that point.

NHL Playoff Odds

One of the top NHL Futures bets among bettors, NHL playoff odds are wagers on whether or not a team will make the playoffs. Their seeding doesn’t matter and neither does how far they make it in the postseason. Half of the teams make it to the NHL playoffs, which is better than most other leagues.

NHL Divisional Odds

Unlike NHL playoff odds, NHL divisional odds require a team to win their division for the bet to be a winner. In the NHL, a team can win their division and not even finish with the most wins among the teams in their division because they use points.

NHL Stanley Cup Champion Odds

Betting on the NHL Stanley Cup champion means that the team you select must win it all. It’s difficult for even the heaviest favorites to be the last team standing, which is why odds are favorable for every team when they open before the season. As the season progresses, the odds are constantly updated, so you can get in on the action until a champion is officially crowned.

NHL Prop Bet Odds

NHL prop bets come in two categories: team props and player props. These bets aren’t tied to the outcome of a game or season. Rather, they’re based on how a team or player performs. Anytime goal scorer is one of the most popular NHL prop bets out there. NHL prop bet odds vary drastically depending on the sportsbook, so looking around helps with finding the best odds.
