Ravi Dixit created history today by becoming the first Indian male towin an Asian Squash title at the Asian Junior Individual Championshipheld at Colombo, Sri Lanka from 7-10 July 2010. Ravi continues hiswinning streak after winning the Malaysian Junior Open earlier lastmonth.
Making this a historical day Dipika Pallikal too lifted the juniorwomen’s crown defeating 2nd seed Low Wee Nee of Malaysia 11-8, 12-10,10-12, 11-8. Dipika but for a brief lapse in concentration had thematch very much in control.Ravi defeated Waqas Mehboob from Pakistan making this an historicdouble for Indian squash. Trailing by two games and with a match ballagainst him Ravi who seemed nervous clawed his way back playingaggressive in the third game and continued it in the fourth. The fifthgame was neck and neck at 9-9, with both player keeping the ball inplay. Waqas eventually hit the tin and Ravi finished the final pointwith a forehand drive winner.
Kush Kumar and Abhishek Pradhan won the bronze medals in the boys u15& u19 categories resp. while Lakshaya Ragvendran and Anaka Alankamonyattaned the 4th position in the girls u15 & u19 categories resp.
