Indian Junior Open Squash starts tomorrow

The 3rd Indian Junior Open Squash Championship will be held from 6-10 September 2011 at the Indian Squash Academy, Chennai. This event carrying a purse of US$10,000 has attracted 295 players from 7 countries Hong Kong (17 players), Malaysia (4 players), Sri Lanka (16 players), Jordan (4 players), Nepal (4 players), USA (1 player) and India.

This tournament is an Asian Squash Federation Junior Super Series Silver event & a World Squash Federation Junior Circuit event organised by the Squash Rackets Federation of India and Tamil Nadu Squash Rackets Association. Participants of this event will receive WSF ranking points (under 19 category only) & ASF ranking points (all categories). There will be 10 age categories – Boys & Girls under 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19.

Indian’s Anaka Alankamony and Mahesh Mangaonkar have been given top billing in the girls and boys under 19 category resp. Anaka from Chennai a student of SSN Engineering College is the current Asian Junior Champion while Mahesh from Mumbai finished 6th at the recently concluded World Junior Championships.

Other prominent foreigners are Boys u17, Asian Junior Champion Ahmad Alsaraj from Jordan along with his brother Modh. Alsaraj who was the runner up at the Asian Junior Championship, here Mohd. is the top seed in the boys u13. Hong Kong players, Chan Ho Ching (Girls u15), Ho Tze Lok (Girls u17), Ho Ka Po (Girls u19), Yuen Tsun Hei (Boys u15) are all title contenders.
