World No. 24 Joshna Chinappa came up with a fantastic performance to book her place in the main draw of the $50k Macau Open at the Centro de Bowling in Macau, China on Wednesday. In her final qualifying round, the 14-time Indian National Champion stunned the top seed and World No. 20 Salma Hany Ibrahim 11-9, 15-13, 11-9 in 30 minutes.
Joshna, who reached a career-best ranking of 19 in 2014, showed no signs of any fatigue after playing a marathon five-game match in her first round of qualifying on Tuesday. And that speaks volumes of her fitness. Her Egyptian opponent, Ibrahim whose career-best ranking is also 19, made it a tough contest for Chinappa but Joshna held her nerves well to clinch a spot in the main draw.
