India defeated Malaysia 2-0 in the final to win the gold medal in the sqaush men’s team event. Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu gave India the lead after beating Iskandar Mohamad in four games. Singh took the match 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4 after an impressive display on the court.
The baton was handed over to Saurav Ghosal to seal the match and win the gold medal. However, Ghosal suffered a poor start, losing the first game 11-6 to Ong Beng Hee. Ghosal quickly adapted to the pace of the game and won the next game 11-7. The momentum was in favour of the Indian and Ghosal made it count, taking the third game 11-6 to give India a 2-1 lead. Hee fought back in the fourth game winning 14-12 to take the match into a decider. In a thriling deciding game, Ghosal beat Hee 11-9 to win the match and India’s third gold medal so far.
Jitu Rai won India’s first gold medal on the first day of the Asian Games. The men’s archery team added a second gold today morning, winning the compound team event.
