Norwegian actress Tonje Gjevjon might spend up to three years in prison after being accused of using criminal hate speech.
On November 17, authorities alerted Gjevjon that they were looking into her comments on Facebook criticising well-known Norwegian campaigner Christine Jentoft.
According to reports, the actress, who belongs to the LGBTQ+ group, claimed that men cannot become "lesbians," just as they cannot bear children.
The New York Post reports that Jentoft, who identifies as a transgender woman, was the target of Gjevjon's message.
Gjevjon has responded to the probe by claiming that she posted her Facebook comment on purpose to draw attention to Norway's rules against hate speech.
According to reports, anybody found guilty of using hate speech in Norway may be subject to a fine or a prison sentence of at least one year.
Norwegian visual artist, actress, and director Tonje Gjevjon also serves as the band's main performer.
Tonje Gjevjon has frequently been in the news for her resistance to granting transsexual people a portion of women's rights, arguing that the benefit would ostensibly undercut women's fights.
