Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto will take to the courts of La Chapelle Arena for their last match of the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, July 30, at (or after) 6:20 PM. The duo will be playing Australia's Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu.
Having lost their first two group stage matches, Ponappa and Crasto's fate at the Games has already been sealed, and they won't be playing in the quarterfinals. However, this clash against the Australians gives the two a chance to walk out of Paris with at least one win.
The Indian World No.18 pair had been placed in a tricky group, and were up against South Korea’s Tokyo Olympics bronze-medalist Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee Yong in their opening round. They lost that match 18-21, 10-21 in 46 minutes.
From there, Ponnappa and Crasto went on to face the Japanese World No.4 pair of Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida. They lost that encounter 11-21, 12-21, and the defeat ended their dreams of making it past the group stage matches.
Now, despite having lost both of their early matches, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto have an opportunity to claim at least one win on the courts of La Chapelle Arena.
For their last group stage encounter, the Indians face Australian World No.26 Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu. While the pairs have never played each other, Ponappa and Crasto remain a favorite for the win.
