After two days of rest, HS Prannoy will be back in action at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Wednesday, July 31, for his final group-stage encounter. The Indian will be playing against Vietnam's Le Duc Phat at 11 pm IST and is expected to make it to the other side unscathed.
Prannoy was placed into Group K for his round-robin matches, alongside Phat and Germany’s Fabian Roth. With both his opponents ranked significantly lower than him, the Indian was expected to ease past his group-stage matches without any difficulties, and that has been the case so far.
The first time the 13th seed graced the court of La Chapelle Arena was on July 28, as he faced Roth. The Indian got off to a slow start but managed to pull away by the end of the first game to win 21-18. From there, Prannoy kept that momentum going, clinching the second game 21-12 in a commanding manner.
On the other hand, Le Duc Phat also played Fabian Roth in his first match at the Paris Olympics. The Vietnamese and the German took to court late on Tuesday, with the former emerging victorious in straight games.
Now, HS Prannoy will battle Phat in their final group-stage match at the Games as he looks to make it through to the elimination rounds. The Indian is a heavy favorite to take the win and will run into either Indonesia's Jonatan Christie or compatriot Lakshya Sen in the round of 16.
