Lakshya Sen will soon be in action on the courts of La Chapelle Arena for what will be his toughest match yet at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian is slated to take on Jonatan Christie of Indonesia this Wednesday, July 31, for his final group stage match, and the ordeal promises to be a thriller.

Going into the match, Christie holds a significant advantage over Sen in their head-to-head record. The duo have crossed paths five times throughout their careers, and the Indonesian has emerged victorious in four of those encounters.

The first time that Lakshya Sen and Jonatan Christie played each other was a little over four years ago. The two shuttlers ran into each other at the 2020 Badminton Asia Team Championships, where the Indian claimed a hard-fought 21-18, 22-20 win over 45 minutes.

The next time Sen and Christie clashed swords was three years later, at the 2023 Indonesia Open. Hungry for revenge, home favorite Christie gave the crowds of Istora Senayan something to cheer about as he came from a game down to take the win 15-21, 21-10, 21-13.

After this match at the Indonesia Open, the two shuttlers have battled each other thrice, and each fight has followed a similar script. Jonatan Christie is always the one who gets a strong start, winning the first game. However, the Indian is quick to stage a comeback and force a decider, only to be doused out in the third game.

Who will Lakshya Sen’s face next at the Paris Olympics?

If Lakshya Sen makes it past Jonatan Christie on Wednesday, the Indian will have safely made it through to the knockout stage matches of the Paris Olympics. However, things will only get tougher for him as he heads deeper into the tournament.

A win in the group stage matches will likely see Sen bump into friend, foe, and compatriot HS Prannoy. Prannoy has been placed in an easy group and is expected to make it through to the elimination rounds without breaking a sweat.
