Lakshya Sen will be back in action at the Paris Olympics 2024 late in the evening on Monday, July 29, as he takes to the courts of La Chapelle Arena for his second group-stage match. The Indian was the one who opened the country's badminton campaign at the Games, and now he'll be hoping to claim his second consecutive win.

Sen, whose appearance in Paris marks his Olympic debut, has been placed in Group L for his round-robin matches. The tricky lot features Guatemala's Tokyo semi-finalist Kevin Cordon, Belgium's Julien Carraggi, as well as reigning All-England champion Jonatan Christie.

The Indian has already won his first match, defeating 37-year-old Cordon in straight games after surviving a scare in the latter half of the second game. Now, he'll square off against Julien Carraggi as he looks to continue his winning momentum in Paris.

Lakshya Sen has battled Carragi twice so far and has emerged victorious each time. The first instance when they clashed swords was at the 2021 Dutch Open where the top seed Indian needed three games to dispose of his opponent, with a scoreline that read 17-21, 22-20, and 21-7.

The next time Sen and Carragi faced each other was at the 2023 Canada Open, where the Indian was yet again pushed to the third game by his Belgian counterpart. Lakshya, the eventual champion, won the first game 21-8 before Carraggi clinched the second 21-17. In the decider, Sen managed to pull through 21-10 for the win.

Paris Olympics 2024: Jonatan Christie to be Lakshya Sen’s biggest obstacle

For Lakshya Sen, the matches against Kevin Cordon and Julien Carraggi will play a much more important role than simply scoring points. His time on court against the Guatemalan and Belgian will allow him to acquaint himself with La Chapelle Arena and gain confidence as he prepares for arguably his biggest challenge in the Paris Olympics group-stage matches.

Before making it through to the round of 16, the Indian will have to battle past Jonatan Christie, who is the current favorite to make it out of Group L. Sen hasn't gotten the better of the Indonesian in a while now, and fans will be eager to see how that fight turns out.
