Lakshya Sen will be the one who opens India's badminton campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024. He is set to be the first shuttler from the nation to grace the courts of La Chapelle Arena on Saturday, July 27, as he takes on Kevin Cordon in his opening match at the Games.
Sen, who is making his Olympic debut in Paris, has been placed in Group L, which consists of Guatemala’s Cordon, Germany’s Julien Carraggi, and Indonesia’s Jonathan Christie. With only one player from each group making it to the knockout rounds, every game will matter for the Indian.
On Saturday, the 22-year-old will walk onto the court at (or after) 19:10 to battle the lower-ranked Cordon. While Sen might be the stronger player on paper, he will have to exercise caution on the court against the Guatemalan.
This match will mark the first competitive outing for the Indian shuttler in nearly two months, and his World No. 41 opponent has had a history of scripting upsets at major events like the Olympics and World Championships, including taking down eighth seed Ng Ka Long Angus at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
