Lakshya Sen has made history as the first Indian men's singles badminton player to reach the Olympic semifinals. He will now face Viktor Axelsen of Denmark on Sunday, August 4, with the game scheduled to start after 2:20 pm IST. The Indian has defeated some huge names on his road to this match, but he will still enter as the underdog, a tag that has worked out well for him thus far.

Sen's giant-killing spree at the Games began early, starting with Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the group stage matches. The 22-year-old hadn't managed to get the better of the All-England champion in their last four meetings coming into the Olympics, but pulled through when it counted the most.

From there, Lakshya went on to dominate fellow Indian shuttler HS Prannoy in straight games before squaring off against Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen. Both arrived into the quarters without dropping a single set, and when the Taiwanese got off to a winning start, tensions ran high for Indian badminton enthusiasts.

However, seemingly against all odds, a cool and calm Lakshya Sen was able to pull through, with the scoreline reading 19-21, 21-15, and 21-12 in his favor at the end of a lengthy battle.

On the other hand, Viktor Axelsen, the defending Olympic champion, has been on complete cruise control in Paris. The tall Dane is yet to be pushed to a third game, even after a quarterfinal showdown against former World Champion Loh Kean Yew.

Now, as Sen tries to script history for India while Axelsen looks to accomplish the rare feat of defending an Olympic title, fans are promised an unforgettable fight on the courts of La Chapelle Arena.
