After two days of inaction, PV Sindhu will be back on the courts of La Chapelle Arena on Wednesday, July 31. The Indian will take on Estonia's Kristin Kuuba at (or after) 12:50 PM for her final group stage match at the Paris Olympics.
Despite a tumultuous year that has resulted in multiple early exits for the Indian, her time at the Games has been relatively stress-free so far. Entering the event as the tenth seed, Sindhu was gifted an easy group stage draw that all but ensured that fans would see her make it through to the round of 16.
For her first match, the 29-year-old took on Maldives’ Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq, a player ranked well below her in the BWF World Rankings. PV Sindhu went in as a favorite for the win and lived up to the billing, besting Razzaq 21-9, 21-6 in under 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, Kristin Kuuba will also come into this match having beaten Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq. Kuuba took on the Maldivian on Tuesday, July 30, and walked away with a win in 32 minutes, with the scoreline reading 21-7, 21-9.
Now, PV Sindhu will face the Estonian for the final match of Group M, and despite Kuuba’s dominant win over Razzaq, the Indian remains a favorite. A victory in this match will result in Sindhu moving forward to the round of 16, where she will likely run into China's He Bingjiao.
