India made history by winning seven medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They surpassed their previous best record of medals won at the Olympics - six at the London Games 2012. List of Indian athletes who won medals at Tokyo Olympics
#1 Neeraj Chopra
Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold medal with a remarkable 87.58m javelin throw at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He became only the second Indian sportsperson to win an Olympic gold medal after Abhinav Bindra's 10m rifle victory in 2008. It was also India’s first track-and-field medal in any Olympic Games.
#2 PV Sindhu
PV Sindhu, India’s star badminton player, brought back another medal continuing her previous form. She won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first Indian woman to win two individual Olympic medals at the Olympic Games after her silver medal triumph at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
#3 Ravi Kumar Dahiya
Ravi Kumar Dahiya secured a silver medal in men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He narrowly missed out on the gold, losing to Zaur Uguev of Russia in the final. With this achievement, he became the only second Indian wrestler to win a silver Olympic medal.
#4 Bajrang Punia
Bajrang Punia grabbed India’s second medal in wrestling. He defeated Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov 8-0 in men’s 65kg freestyle wrestling to win the bronze medal. Unfortunately, Bajrang lost his semi-final match to Azerbaijan’s Haji Aliyev.
#5 Mirabai Chanu
Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal in the 49kg division in weightlifting. Her total lift was 202kg. With this she became only the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at the Olympic Games.
Before Mirabai Chanu, Karnam Malleswari was the first Indian woman to win a medal in weightlifting at the Sydney Games 2000.
#6 Lovlina Burgohain
Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain picked up the country's third ever Olympic medal in boxing when she secured a bronze in the women's welterweight (64-69 kg) category. It was the third medal for India in boxing after Vijender Singh and MC Mary Kom’s bronze in 2008 and 2012, respectively.
#7 Indian Hockey Team
India’s wait of 41 years for an Olympic medal in Hockey was finally over at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They managed to secure a bronze medal. India's last Olympic medal in hockey had come back in 1980 before the 2020 contingent ended the drought.
