Indian sports fans have reason to celebrate as women golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar have officially qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024. The Summer Games in Paris will see a total of 60 women golfers and as many men take the field at Le Golf National on August 1.

The qualification window for women golfers closed on Monday, June 24. According to IOC guidelines, the top 15 players on the Olympic Golf Rankings (OGR) secured their quota places directly, with a maximum of four athletes allowed per country.

Beyond the top 15, the OGR permits up to two players per country, provided the country does not already have two players in the top 15. Aditi Ashok, ranked 24th, and Diksha Dagar, ranked 40th, qualified through their positions in the rankings.

Paris 2024 marks the second Olympic appearance for both Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar. Aditi, who narrowly missed out on becoming the first Indian golfer to win an Olympic medal by finishing fourth at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, is eager for another shot at the podium.

Meanwhile, Diksha Dagar holds the unique distinction of being the only golfer to compete in both the Deaflympics and the Olympics. She has previously won a silver and a bronze at the Deaflympics and now aims to add an Olympic medal to her achievements.

Shubhankar and Gaganjeet also secured their spots for the Summer Games in a similar fashion through the OGR rankings. The cut-off date for men’s golfers was June 17, and after that, Shubhankar was ranked 48th, whereas Gaganjeet was placed at the 54th spot, which helped them qualify for the Paris Olympics.

With a balanced and talented team, the Indian golf contingent heads to the Paris Olympics 2024 with high hopes.
