Nikhat Zareen off to a winning start in the Paris 2024 Olympics

Two-time world champion Zareen faced off against rising German pugilist Maxi Carina Kloetzer and had to dig deep to win in the Round of 32 match at the North Paris Arena. Zareen trailed in the first round and was warned by the referee for holding her opponent’s head.

After losing the first round by a split decision, Zareen got into the flow of the game. The opponents exchanged a series of face blows, and the Indian pugilist won the round after Corina got a points deduction.

In the third round, Zareen took the match home after winning 5-0 in a unanimous decision, marking off her Paris 2024 Olympics journey with a win. With this, she moves on to the Round of 16 in the women’s 50 kg event.

Nikhat Zareen, who is unseeded in the tournament, will play one of the toughest matches of her career as she faces top-seeded Wu Yu of China on Thursday at 2.30 pm IST.
