The 2020 Tokyo Olympics was Indian archer Deepika Kumari's third appearance in the Olympic Games. The former World No. 1 has previously participated in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

Deepika's desire to win a maiden Olympic medal continued after she was eliminated from the Tokyo Olympics. She was knocked out of the event after suffering a 6-0 defeat to An San of South Korea in the women’s individual archery event at the Yumenoshima Park Archery Field.

An San clinched the opening set with three 10s, conquering the Indian's two 10s and a 7. The South Korean continued her dominance, winning the second set 26-24, shooting 10, 9, 7, while Deepika scored 10, 7, 7. Deepika Kumari then managed to shoot 24 (7, 8, 9) but it was not enough to overcome her opponent, as An Sab scored 26 (8, 9, 9) to take the third set and clinch the match.

Before this, Deepika defeated two-time Olympic silver-medallist Ksenia Perova of ROC 6-5 in a shoot-off in the round of 16. After the defeat to An San, her campaign at Tokyo 2020 ended.

She had earlier suffered a defeat in the mixed-team archery event against eventual champions South Korea with Pravin Jadhav.

Deepika Kumari's studded career in archery beyond the Olympics
