Diksha Dagar, who hails from Haryana, is an Indian professional golfer. She has been efficient in the sport since emerging as the leading amateur women's golfer in the country in November 2015. She represented the country at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics in the women's individual golf event and clinched a silver medal.

Dagar has made her Olympic Games debut at Tokyo 2020. She made a cut for India lately after South Africa’s Paula Reto withdrew from the tournament and Sarah Schober was denied the vacant spot. She created a record with her participation, becoming the first golfer ever to compete in both the Olympics and the Deaflympics.

Arriving in Tokyo from Northern Ireland just a couple of days before her opening round, the 23-year-old impressed with her performance. She recovered after her opening round of 76, posting scores of 72-72-70 on the final three days.

She finished at a respectable total of 6-over 290. Her performance included a 1-under in the final round with four birdies and three bogeys, which helped her to earn a tied-50th position in the 60-member field.


A deeper look at Diksha Dagar's career

Diksha Dagar, known for her powerful long strikes, began her golf career as an amateur in 2012. In November 2015, she impressed as the low amateur at the Hero Women's Indian Open on the Ladies European Tour. She continued to excel in amateur tournaments, becoming the only Indian golfer ranked in the top 500 globally for the U18 category in 2016.

Transitioning to the professional circuit, Diksha Dagar secured her first professional victory at the Women's Pro Golf Tour in 2017. The following year, she won the Singapore Ladies Amateur Open and set a record at the Queen Sirikit Cup in Thailand with a three-under 69, contributing to India's sixth-place finish in the team event.

She later competed in the 2018 Asian Games, representing India in both the women's individual and team events.

Before taking part in the Tokyo Olympics, Diksha Dagar demonstrated her prowess in Europe, sealing a win at the Aramco Team Series London event. She also secured two fouth-place finishes in the Czech Republic and Finland.

Recently, she added a new feather to her cap, becoming the first Indian golfer to tee off in 100 Ladies European Tour (LET) events.

The 23-year-old participated in approximately nine golf events, predominantly in Europe. Currently ranked 37th in the Olympic Golf Rankings (OGR), she is expected to clinch her first Olympic medal in Paris.
