Indian ace badminton player PV Sindhu set a record in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Clinching a bronze in badminton at Tokyo, she became the first Indian woman to secure two Olympic medals. She previously demonstrated her mastery at the 2016 Rio Olympics winning a silver medal.

Notably, following her historic silver medal win in Rio 2016, there was an incessant buzz she might achieve something in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Although PV Sindhu was outplayed by Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu-Ying on her way to the gold medal match, the 28-year-old showcased remarkable resilience and determination throughout the event. Despite the disappointment of losing the semifinal she managed to overcome it taking home a medal.

A deeper look at PV Sindhu's performance at Tokyo Olympics

PV Sindhu was seeded sixth at the Tokyo Olympics. Her performance throughout the event was predominantly dominant, despite the setback in the semi-final clash. She swiftly navigated through the early group play stage.

She had defeated Israel's Ksenia Polikarpova 2-0 (21-7, 21-10) and Cheung Ngan Yi in a somewhat similar fashion, 2-0 (21-9, 21-16) and took a mere 41 minutes to secure her spot in the quarterfinals. She then overcame Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt and Akane Yamaguchi to reach the semi-final.

In the semi-finals, she encountered a tougher challenge. Her opponent, Tai Tzu-Ying cunningly balanced the Indian shuttler's attack during the fight to secure a spot in the gold medal match.

The Chinese Taipei star targeted PV Sindhu's body and thus the latter struggled to match the opponent’s pace and subsequently lost in the semi-final match. Despite failing to win the gold medal, she remained determined and ended her campaign with a bronze medal.

Sindhu, the top Indian female shuttler, will be the sole representative for India in the women's singles category in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. She secured the quota by finishing 14th on the Race to Paris Ranking List. This will mark her third consecutive appearance at this prestigious event.
