Sanjeev Rajput, an Indian shooter, participated in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but fell short of making it to the final. He could only finish 32nd in the qualifying rounds with a total score of 1157.

In the event held at the Akasa Shooting Range, Sanjeev Rajput, the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion scored only 387 in the kneeling position, achieving his best of 99 in the second series. He followed with a score of 393 in the prone position, including a perfect 100 in the second series of the event. The three-time Olympian could only manage to score 377 in the standing position.


Sanjeev Rajput's stellar shooting career

The Haryana-born shooter first showcased his talent in 2004 when he clinched three golds and a silver medal at the SAF Games in Islamabad. His success continued in 2005 when he won the 50m Free Rifle three-position and the 10m Air Rifle Champion of Champions events.

Sanjeev Rajput secured a team gold medal in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship while also claiming the bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

He earned a berth in the Olympics in 2007 after setting a new national record of 1170/1200 at the ISSF World Cup in Fort Benning, USA. He thus competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing but failed to advance to the finals of the men's 50m rifle-prone event. He participated in the men's 50m rifle three positions event as well.

In 2009, Sanjeev Rajput clinched four gold medals at the SAG Shooting Championship in Dhaka. He claimed a double gold in the 50m Rifle 3 position event with the New Meet Record in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship the very next year. In the 2011 World Cup held in Korea, he secured a gold medal.

After winning gold at this event, he earned a qualification for the London Olympics, where he failed to make it to the final. Additionally, he reached the final of the 50m three positions event at the ISSF World Cup in 2019 and that's how he obtained a berth for the 2020 Olympics.
