Satish Kumar, an Indian amateur boxer, etched his name in the history books, becoming the first Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics in the 91 kg category. He made his debut in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

He fell short of winning a medal after suffering a defeat against Bakhokdir Jalolov of Uzbekistan in the quarter-final of the men’s +91 kg at Tokyo 2020 at the Ryogoku Kokugikan arena.

Satish Kumar displayed determination and aggression in the ring but failed to overcome the technically superior Uzbekistan boxer by unanimous decision.

A deeper look at Satish Kumar's bout against Bakhokdir Jalolov in Tokyo Olympics 2020

It is worth noting that Satish Kumar faced Jalolov with an injury from his pre-quarterfinal encounter against Jamaica's Ricardo Brown. Despite having seven stitches in his forehead, the 35-year-old showed his commitment to the sport by entering the ring.

Notably, he was given medical clearance to fight on the morning of the match and thus he became the second Indian boxer at the Tokyo Olympics to take the ring with an injury.

In the bout, both Satish and Jalolov started conventionally, taking the first minute to gauge their strategy. It was Satish who escalated his offensive efforts thereafter.

Despite his efforts, he struggled to find openings as Jalolov was seen bypassing the Indian boxer's attacks effortlessly. Additionally, his opponent capitalized further with his precise right jabs and eventually won the first round.

Jalolov, a three-time Asian champion, continued his dominance against the Indian boxer and accumulated points steadily. The Uzbekistan boxer made a powerful left hook, which rattled Satish and put him in a desperate position.

By the time the final round approached, it appeared the bout had already slipped from the Indian boxer. Jalolov secured full points from all five judges in each round. Notably, it marked the Indian boxer's third consecutive loss to Jalolov.
