Simranjit Kaur is an Indian amateur boxer hailing from Punjab. She has been representing the country internationally since 2011. The 28-year-old made her Olympic debut in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and thus became the first female boxer from Punjab to participate in the Summer Games.

She had a disappointing campaign as it ended after losing to Sudaporn Seesondee of Thailand in the women’s 60kg round of 16 bout. She lost the lightweight contest, held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan arena, by unanimous decision.

Notably, the bout took off slowly with both boxers measuring their range until the Indian started her offense. However, she couldn't connect much further. Her Thai opponent, on the other hand, made some sharp jabs through Simranjit's defense and won the first round 5:0.

Simranjit Kaur, a bronze medallist at the World Championships and a two-time Asian medallist, showed aggression in the second round but her opponent successfully dodged most of the punches from the Indian.

Seesondee, a silver medallist at the World Championships, further capitalized on well-timed hooks and body punches to accumulate more points and thereby earned full points from the judges.

Notably, the pattern persisted into the final round, with the Thai boxer seen continuing her dominance over the Indian. Later Simranjit managed to close the distance and land some punches but it was not easy to win as her opponent was declared the winner when the final bell rang.

Simranjit Kaur has previously achieved numerous accolades throughout her career. She clinched a bronze medal for the country at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and won gold at the Ahmet Comert International Boxing Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.

In addition, Simranjit won a silver at the 2019 Asian Championships and a bronze at the 2018 World Championships. Additionally, she has clinched a gold medal at the Cologne Boxing World Cup in Germany.
