Tejaswini Sawant is a shooter and Olympian hailing from Kolhapur in Maharashtra. Sawant has participated at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. She failed to make a cut for the medal round after finishing 33rd in the qualification round at the Asaka Shooting Range.
Sawant stumbled while attempting to bounce back after a lackluster performance in the Kneeling Round, despite showing progress in the Prone Round. The 43-year-old seasoned campaigner finished 33rd out of 37 women shooters, scoring a total of 1154 points.
Tejaswini Sawant's career in brief
Throughout her career, Tejaswini Sawant has achieved various awards and medals. Representing India at the 9th South Asian Sports Federation Games in 2004 she won a gold medal.
She clinched gold medals in the Women's 10 m Air Rifle singles and Women's 10 m Air Rifle Pairs (with Avneet Kaur Sidhu) at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
She continued to showcase her prowess, winning a bronze medal in the 50-metre rifle three positions at the 2009 ISSF World Cup. Remarkably, she became the World Champion in the 50m Rifle Prone event in Munich, Germany in 2010.
Tejaswini Sawant thus made history, becoming the first Indian woman shooter to achieve a gold medal at the World Championships with a world-record equalling score.
She continued to shine, winning a silver in Women's 50 rifle prone singles at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi and bronze in Women's 50 m rifle prone pairs. In the same competition, she clinched silver in the Women's 50 m rifle 3 positions event along with Lajjakumari Goswami.
In April 2018, she secured a silver medal in the Women's 50m Rifle Prone Finals, scoring 618.9, and clinched a gold medal at the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Position Finals.
