Vikas Krishan Yadav is an Indian boxer hailing from Bhiwani district in Haryana. He has participated at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the welterweight (69kg) category. Yadav experienced a disappointing campaign as he made an early exit from the tournament.
Yadav's dream of winning an Olympic medal faded after he suffered a defeat against Japanese boxer Sewonrets Okazawa 5-0 at the Ryogoku Kokugikan arena. It is worth noting that, Yadav made it to the Tokyo Olympics after outclassing Okazawa in the Olympic boxing qualifiers in Amman, Jordan.
The Indian boxer did not make any impact in the first round while his opponent dominated by some long-range punches. He exhibited a cautious approach in the second round; However, it was insufficient to take control over the Japanese boxer as he left the Indian with a cut above the eye.
Okazawa, a silver medalist at the 2019 Asian championships, continued to dominate against the Indian and subsequently landed some fine punches. Vikas Krishan Yadav, on the other hand, failed to connect Okazawa’s measured hooks and jabs. Eventually, the match turned in the Japanese boxer’s favor and ultimately he won it.
