The 30-member Indian athletics contingent will train at three overseas sites in their final Olympic preparations before heading to the French capital for the mega event.
The Indian athletics team will arrive in Paris on July 28, four days before the commencement of the track and field competitions in the quadrennial event. The three foreign venues for the final leg of preparations will be the Olympic Sports Center in Spala, Poland; Antalya in Turkey; and St. Moritz in Switzerland.
“The members of the national athletics team will be training at different venues to prepare for the Olympic Games, but will have to assemble in Paris on July 28,” chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair told PTI.
Meanwhile, reigning Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be training in Antalya, Turkey.
“He (Chopra) has already reached Turkey and will reach Paris on July 28,” Nair added.
Two new additions to the Indian athletics team for Paris Olympics 2024
On Sunday, July 7, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) confirmed the addition of long jumper Jeswin Aldrin and 500m runner Ankita Dhyani for the Paris Olympics 2024 via the world rankings route after the World Athletics made corrections through reallocations.
Also, Indian athletics chief coach Nair confirmed that four race walkers Akshdeep Singh, Paramjeet Singh Bisht, Vikash Singh, and Suraj Panwar are currently at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Bengaluru alongside triple jumper Abdulla Abookbacker.
Meanwhile, Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary will train in St. Moritz in Switzerland. All members of the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams will head to Poland on Thursday, July 11.
Also, javelin thrower Annu Rani, and shot putters Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Abha Khatua will travel to Poland on Thursday.
“Sable and Parul will join the group of athletes in Poland on July 24 and then go to Paris. Ankita (5,000m) is currently based out of Bengaluru,” Nair stated.
Javelin thrower Kishore Jena, 100m hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, long jumper Jeswin Aldrin, and triple jumper Praveen Chithravel already arrived in Poland earlier this week.
