The Paris Olympics 2024 are here. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president and one of the governing council members of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajeev Shukla has extended his best wishes to the Indian athletes competing at the quadrennial event. He exuded confidence in the Indian contingent bagging more than 20 medals.
India secured seven medals, including one gold medal by Neeraj Chopra, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This was the country's best-ever medal tally at the Summer Games. With a contingent of 117 athletes, India will aim to surpass this number in Paris.
Additionally, the BCCI came forward to support athletes and help the country achieve its goal by providing financial aid to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced that the board will assist the Indian contingent by providing INR 8.5 crore to the IOA for the Games.
“Our athletes, our contingent, is going there. Our best wishes to them for winning more and more medals – more than 20 medals. BCCI has extended special help towards this. We have provided Rs 8.5 crore. I am confident that our athletes will do very well,” Rajeev Shukla told ANI.
Haryana CM confident of state athletes playing key role in Paris Olympics 2024
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also sounded confident that the 25 athletes from the state competing in Paris will play a key role in contributing to India’s medal tally.
“My greetings to all the Indian athletes. You are representing India at the biggest stage of sports. the whole country has a lot of expectations from you people regarding the Paris Olympics 2024. We hope you give your best. To the 25 athletes from Haryana, I want to say that this time also we will play a key role in the medal tally of the country,” Saini told ANI.
The Paris Olympics 2024 opening ceremony took place on Friday, July 26. The Indian contingent had 78 athletes and officials from 12 disciplines at the ceremony. More Indian athletes are expected to join the contingent soon.
PV Sindhu and Sharath Kamal were India’s flagbearers at the opening ceremony, with former shooter Gagan Narang appointed as the Indian contingent’s Chef-de-Mission.
