Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has made a special request to India’s top javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra. PM Modi has a wonderful interaction with the Indian contingent who are heading to Paris for the Summer Olympics 2024 starting from July 26 to August 11.

The interaction happened on Thursday, July 4, at PM Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi. Many athletes and their support staff, along with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, and Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse.

A few athletes, namely Neeraj Chopra, badminton star PV Sindhu, and boxing champion Lovlina Borgohain, joined the interaction virtually.

During the video conference, Chopra promised PM Modi that he would bring homemade "churma" for him after returning from the Paris Olympics, to which PM Modi responded with a heartfelt request.

"Mujhe aapke maa ke haath ka khaaana hai (I would like to have churma made by your mother),” said PM Narendra Modi.

Neeraj Chopra gives updates on his preparation for Paris Olympics 2024

Tokyo 2020 gold medalist and World Champion 2023 Neeraj Chopra is India’s best prospect to clinch another gold at the Paris Olympics 2024. He has been in fine form recently, having clinched a gold medal at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland with a throw of 85.97m.

Just before this tournament, Chopra pulled out of the Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meet in Czechia as a precaution after feeling a niggle in his adductors. He is carefully planning his schedule to stay injury-free for the Paris Olympics 2024.

Currently, he is training in Germany before going to Turkey for his final preparation.

"Training is going fine in Germany. I have been playing less because of injury scares. I am trying to stay injury-free. I got a gold at an event (Paavo Nurmi games) in Finland recently,” said Chopra.
