India’s youngest-ever medal winner at the Summer Games, Aman Sehrawat recently took to social media to express his gratitude to his supporters after securing a bronze medal in the men’s 57 kg freestyle wrestling event at the Paris Olympics 2024.

In his heartfelt message, he emphasized that with hard work and dedication, anything is achievable. Sehrawat added that he was inspired to take up the sport after watching his role models and hoped that his own achievements would encourage youngsters to pursue wrestling.

“Winning a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics makes me very happy and grateful to everyone! With hard work and dedication, everything is possible,” Aman Sehrawat wrote on Instagram.
“This journey has made me understand the importance of focus and training. I started wrestling by watching my role models, and my biggest victory would be if people take up this sport after seeing me,” he added.

Aman Sehrawat breaks PV Sindhu’s Olympic record

At the age of 21 years and 24 days, the young and rising wrestler Aman Sehrawat surpassed PV Sindhu’s record of 21 years, one month, and 14 days (silver medal at the 2106 Rio Games) to become the youngest-ever Olympic medal winner for India.

In the bronze medal bout, Sehrawat defeated Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico, a Pan American Games bronze medal winner, with a comprehensive 13-5 scoreline. This is India’s only medal in wrestling at the Summer Games in Paris so far.

Six wrestlers represented India at the Paris Olympics 2024 — Nisha Dahiya made an exit in the quarter-finals and Vinesh Phogat suffered disqualification ahead of her final bout after being overweight by 100 gm. Antim Panghal and Anshu Malik were eliminated in the opening round. On the other hand, Reetika Hooda bowed out from her quarter-final bout after losing to No. 1 seed Medet Kyzy.
