Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold medal in the javelin throw event at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2024 in Turku, Finland on Tuesday (June 18). The 26-year-old athlete finished first with a best throw of 85.97m, which came off his third attempt.
The Indian athlete registered a throw of 83.62m and 83.45m in his first two attempts. He threw only 82.21m on his fourth attempt and registered a foul throw on his fifth attempt. In his final attempt, Neeraj threw 82.97m.
Finland's Toni Keranen won the silver medal with his personal best of 84.19m. Meanwhile, Oliver Helander from Finland bagged the bronze medal with a best throw of 83.96m.
Grenada's Anderson Peters finished fourth with a best throw of 82.58m, which came off his first attempt. He registered throws of 81.82m, 81.16m, 76.97m, and a couple of foul throws in his remaining attempts.
Moldova's Andrian Mardare (82.19m) and Trinidad and Tobago's Keshom Walcott (81.93m) were fifth and sixth, respectively at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2024. Both athletes registered their season best and will look to throw better in their upcoming competitions.
Max Dehning from Germany finished in seventh place with a best throw of 79.84m. He also threw 79.04m, and 77.81m in his two legal attempts.
Finland's Lassi Etelatalo registered a throw of 79.35m to finish last in the javelin throw event. Etelatalo started his campaign with a throw of 73.84m and followed it up with 77.69m, and 74.95m. He also registered two foul attempts.
