Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra failed to defend his gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday night. He finished second in the men's javelin throw final with a best throw of 89.45m, which came off his second attempt.
Out of six attempts, Neeraj Chopra registered five foul throws. His only legal throw guided him to the silver medal and India's first silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Meanwhile, Arshad Nadeem bagged the gold medal with a throw of 92.97m in his second attempt, shattering the Olympic Record previously held by Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen.
He started off with a foul throw in his first attempt but created history in the second. In his final attempt, Arshad was looking to do much better but could manage a throw of 91.79m.
Grenada's Anderson Peters bagged the bronze medal with a best throw of 88.54m from his fourth attempt. His remaining four legal attempts were 84.70m, 87.87m, 87.38m, and 81.83m.
Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch, on the other hand, missed out on a bronze medal by a whisker. He fell 0.05m short and finished fourth in the rankings.
