India’s Arshad Shaik and Jyoti Gaderiya suffered early exits from the Paris 2024 Paralympics para-cycling events as they finished in the last positions in the qualification rounds of their respective categories on Saturday.
Shaik, who is ranked No. 5 in the world in the men’s C2 category, finished in 17th position in the men’s C1-3 1000m time trial event qualification round. The para-cyclist from Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, who was making his Paralympic debut in Paris 2024, clocked a timing of 1:21.416 with an average speed of 41.786 km/h.
China continued its dominance at the Paralympic Games, with Li Zhangyu (1:03.777) winning the gold medal, and his countryman Liang Weicong (1:04.400) securing a bronze. Alexandre Leaute of France finished second to win the silver medal with a timing of 1:04.279.

India’s Paris 2024 Paralympics para-cycling misery continued as Arshad’s fellow Andhra-born para-cyclist Jyoti Gaderiya finished in 11th position in the women’s C1-3 500m time trial event qualification round. She clocked a timing of 49.233 in the event, with an average speed of 34.550 km/h.
Australia’s Amanda Reid took home the gold medal, registering a timing of 36.537. Chinese para-cyclist Qian Wangwei finished second with 37.621. Germany’s Maike Hausberger finished third with 38.462.
