India athlete Avinash Sable created a new national record in the men's 3000m Steeplechase, clocking 8:09.91s at the Paris Diamond League 2024 on Sunday (July 7).
The 29-year-old athlete broke his own record to set a new national record in the event. He finished sixth in the race and also registered his personal best and season best.
His previous best in the men's 3000m steeplechase was 8:11.20s and a season-best of 8:21.85, which he set earlier this year.
Ethiopia's Abrham Sime won the men's 3000m steeplechase at the Paris Diamond League 2024 with a time of 8:02.36s. The silver and bronze medals were awarded to Kenya's Amos Serem and Abraham Kibiwot, who clocked a time of 8:02.36s and 8:06.70s, respectively.
Tunisia's Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui secured fourth place and also created a new national record of 8:09.41s. Meanwhile, Geordie Beamish set a new Oceania record, completing the race in 8:09.64s.
A total of 18 athletes competed in the event with only 15 players finishing the race. Kenya's Lawrence Kemboi Kipsang and Wilberforce Chemiat Kones did not finish the race, while Simon Kiprop Koech from Kenya did not start the race.
