Indian runner Avinash Sable has secured his place in the finals of the men’s 3000m steeplechase at the Paris Olympics 2024. Competing in Heat 2 of Round 1 against a tough field of athletes, including world-class runners like World No. 3 Abraham Kibiwot, World No. 4 Samuel Firewu, and World No. 9 Ryuji Miura, Avinash Sable finished fifth with a time of 8:15.43.
Sable’s performance was marked by a strong start. He took the lead early in the race, crossing the 1000m mark in first place with a time of 2:20.8. However, as the race progressed, he fell to third place at the 2000m mark with a timing of 5:28.7, overtaken by Samuel Firewu of Ethiopia and Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya.
Avinash Sable held his ground and finished with a timing of 8:15.43, just narrowly qualifying for the finals. The top positions in Heat 2 were claimed by Mohamed Tindouft of Morocco, who set a personal best with a time of 8:10.62, Samuel Firewu with 8:11.61, and Abraham Kibiwot with 8:12.02. Ryuji Miura of Japan finished fourth with a time of 8:12.41.
Notably, Avinash Sable’s timing of 8:15.43 was the fifth-best among the athletes across all three heats. This positions him well for a chance at a medal in the final.
