Paris Olympics 2024: Indian Archery team touches down in Paris; Greeted by Chef de Mission Gagan Narang

The Indian archery team has landed in Paris, France, ahead of the much-anticipated Paris Olympics 2024.

The six-member archery team, consisting of seasoned archers and debutants, was warmly received by Chef de Mission Gagan Narang, a four-time Olympian, and a bronze medalist in shooting at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. Deputy Chef de Mission Shiva Keshavan, a 10-time Asian medalist, was also present to greet the Indian archery team.

The official handle of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) posted on their social media handles about the arrival of the archery contingent.

“Touchdown Paris! Our archery contingent has reached the Olympic Village in Paris. Greeted by Chef de Mission Gagan Narang and Deputy Chef de Mission Shiva Keshavan,” wrote the Indian Olympic Association.

How does the Indian archery contingent shape up for the Paris Olympics 2024?

Led by three-time Olympians Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, the Indian team is determined to break India's Olympic medal drought in archery. Deepika, who was the sole female archer at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will be joined by debutants Bhajan Kaur and Ankita Bhakat in the women's recurve archery team. This marks the first time in eight years that the Indian women's archery team has qualified for the Summer Olympics.

On the men's side, Tarundeep Rai will be joined by Tokyo 2020 Olympian Pravin Jadhav and debutant Dhiraj Bommadevara. Notably, Dhiraj and Bhajan secured direct quotas for the Paris Olympics 2024 in individual events, which were later upgraded to team quotas, enabling the Indian archery team to compete in all five medal events.

India will be sending a full quota of archers to the Olympics for the first time since the 2012 London Games. With a mix of experienced archers and in-form newcomers, hopes are high for a podium finish. The archery events at the Paris Olympics 2024 will commence on July 25 at Les Invalides.
