Ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024, the Indian shooting team has begun its training sessions at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre in central France.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) took to the social media platform X to post a picture of several members of the Indian shooting team practising rifle shooting at the iconic shooting range.

“Sessions at the Chateauroux range have begun.” the caption read.

The Chateauroux Shooting Centre, which is around 270 kilometres away from Paris, was inaugurated in 2018 to be used for international tournaments, such as the Paris Olympics 2024. It is presently one of the largest international shooting ranges in Europe and is used by the French shooting team for training.

The National Shooting Centre at the Chateauroux range will be used by the Paris Olympics authorities to host rifle, shotgun, and pistol events for 15 Olympic events and 13 Paralympic events this year.

After the conclusion of the Paris Summer Olympics, the range will be used for other national and international tournaments by the French Shooting Federation.

The shooting events at the Paris Olympics 2024 will begin on July 27 and will conclude on August 5 after the shotgun skeet mixed team final.

Who is representing the Indian shooting team at the Paris Olympics 2024?

India has sent a 21-member strong shooting contingent to Paris, with 10 of them having already touched down in France on Tuesday. 15 members among the 21 of the Indian shooting team will represent the rifle and pistol contingent, while the rest will compete in the shotgun events.

The team will be led by ace shooter Manu Bhaker, who will be appearing at the Olympics for the second time.

Other star shooters in the Indian contingent include 2023 Baki World Championships gold medalist Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Anjum Moudgil, and 2018 Changwon World Championships gold medalist Elavenil Valarivan.

The rest of the contingent, including the Asian Games gold medalist Sift Kaur Samra, will be making their Olympic debuts in Paris this year.
