It was a challenging day for Indian shooters Anjum Moudgil and Sift Kaur Samra at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday (August 1). They bowed out of the competition after falling short in the qualification round of the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event.
The 50m rifle 3 positions event requires competitors to shoot from three different positions—prone, kneeling, and standing.
Anjum Moudgil finished with a total score of 584, including 26 inner 10s (X’s). Despite a strong showing, this score placed her just outside the qualification range, at 18th. The top eight shooters from the qualification stage moved forward.
Sift Kaur Samra also faced disappointment, ending her qualification campaign with a score of 575 and 22 inner 10s to finish 31st. These results were particularly disheartening given that Swapnil Kusale had won a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event earlier in the day to bring home India’s third medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, following Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh.
