Indian trap shooter Shreyasi Singh has been included in the final 21-member squad for the Paris Olympics 2024. The announcement was made on Friday, June 21, following the approval of a quota swap by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) had requested a quota swap due to Manu Bhaker securing top spots in both the women’s 10m air pistol and women’s 25m pistol events. This prompted the NRAI to swap one of the quota places for a woman trap shooter, selecting Shreyasi Singh for the spot.

Who will Shreyasi Singh join in the women’s trap event?

Shreyasi Singh will join Rajeshwari Kumari in the women’s trap event for the Paris Olympics 2024. The inclusion of Shreyasi means that India completes its full quota of two starts in the women's trap event.

NRAI secretary-general Kr. Sultan Singh explained the decision and the process of securing the swap.

"We had requested the ISSF to change one quota place from 10m air pistol women to trap women and have received correspondence from them that it has been accepted," Kr. Sultan Singh told PTI.

Shreyasi’s inclusion bolsters the Indian shooting team, which now comprises a total of 21 members and 28 starts, including the mixed events, for the Paris Olympics 2024. This strategic move ensures that India maximizes its potential for medals in multiple events.

"As a result, Shreyasi Singh has now been added to the original list of 20 names published, and we will have a full quota of two starts in the women's trap event," Singh added.

The Indian shooting team now includes six members in shotgun events, seven in pistol, and eight in rifle. This diverse and well-rounded team will aim to end India’s struggle for an Olympic medal in shooting.

India has won just four medals in shooting, with the last medals coming in 2012 when Gagan Narang secured a bronze and Vijay Kumar bagged a silver.
