Vijender Singh, Mary Kom and Lovlina Borgohain have won medals for India in boxing at the Olympics over the years. It is now time for the current contingent to put its best foot forward in the upcoming edition of the showpiece event in Paris. Nishant Dev (71 kg) and Amit Panghal (51 kg) form the men’s contingent while Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Preeti Pawar (54 kg), Lovlina (75 kg) and Jasmine Lambodia (57 kg) are the female participants.
For Paris 2024, there will be 13 categories for which athletes will fight for medals – Men’s 51 kg, Men’s 57 kg, Men’s 63.5 kg, Men’s 71 kg, Men’s 80 kg, Men’s 92 kg, Men’s +92 kg, Women’s 50 kg, Women’s 54 kg, Women’s 57 kg, Women’s 60 kg, Women’s 66 kg, and Women’s 75 kg.
When will Lovlina Borgohain, Nikhat Zareen and other boxers play in Paris Olympics?
The boxing events will start on Saturday, July 27 with the preliminary rounds. Preeti will be in action on Saturday when the prelims (Round of 32) of the Women’s 54 kg take place. On Sunday, July 28, Panghal will take part in the prelims (Round of 32) of the Men’s 51 kg event.
On the same day, Nikhat Zareen will also be in action in the prelims (Round of 32) of the Women’s 50 kg event. Nishant’s (Round of 32) match in the 71 kg events is also on July 28. On July 30, Jasmine will be in action in her prelims (Round of 32) of the women’s 57 kg event. Lovlina Borgohain will take part in the prelims (Round of 16) of the Women’s 75 kg event on July 31.
The boxing events end on August 11 with the finals of the Women’s 57 kg, Men’s 57 kg, Women’s 75 kg and Men’s +92 kg scheduled for the day. Among the participants, the focus will mostly be on Lovlina Borgohain, who already made India proud in the Tokyo Olympics by winning bronze.
