USA wrestler Helen Maroulis and Indian grappler Anshu Malik have locked horns on only one occasion in the past. They are all set to take on each other in a Round of 16 bout in the women's freestyle 57kg category at the Paris Olympics in 2024 on Thursday, August 8.

These two wrestlers competed against each other at the Senior World Wrestling Championships in 2021 when the USA wrestler Helen came out on top with a comfortable win by 4-1 to secure the gold medal at the Championships.

Notably, Helen was part of the Rio Olympics in 2016, where she secured a gold medal in the 53kg category. She defeated Japan’s Saori Yoshida by 4-1 in Rio to secure the yellow metal.

In the Tokyo Olympics, she won the bronze medal after clinching a win over Boldsaikhan Khongorzul from Mongolia in the 57kg category. Earlier, she suffered a defeat against Japan’s Risako Kawai in the semi-final contest.

Thereafter, Helen continued her good form by securing a silver medal at the World Championships in 2022. Then, she won a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2023 to secure her Paris Olympics 2024 quota.

How did Anshu Malik qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024?

Meanwhile, Anshu Malik, the Indian wrestler, would be eyeing to make it big at the Paris Olympics 2024 having won silver medals at the World Championships in 2021, Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, and Asian Championships in 2022.

It’s worth noting that she clinched a gold medal at the Asian Championships in 2021 and a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in 2023.

Anshu bagged her Paris Olympics 2024 quota after her exceptional performance at the Asian Qualification Tournament in April 2024.

Speaking about the rankings, Helen Maroulis is ranked World No. 5 in the women's 57kg weight category in the UWW World Rankings. Meanwhile, Anshu Malik holds World No. 38 in the latest UWW Rankings.

The Asian Junior Championships gold medalist wrestler Anshu Malik would be aiming to level the head-to-head record in this bout and start off her campaign on a good note.
